Driver Training and Development Policy
Purpose
The New Day Company, LLC is committed to ensuring the highest level of safety and professionalism in its operations. This policy outlines the company’s commitment to providing ongoing education and training programs designed to enhance safe driving practices, equipment operation proficiency, and compliance with all traffic laws and regulations.
Scope
This policy applies to all drivers employed by The New Day Company, LLC, including full-time, part-time, and temporary drivers, as well as any contractors who may operate company vehicles as part of their contracted duties.
Policy Statement
The New Day Company, LLC believes that continuous driver training and development are essential for maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant transportation operation. The company is dedicated to providing regular and comprehensive training programs for all drivers.
Training Programs
Initial Training
- All new drivers will undergo a comprehensive orientation program covering company policies, safety procedures, equipment operation, and compliance with relevant traffic laws.
- This training will also include a road test to assess driving skills and familiarity with the types of vehicles the driver will operate.
Ongoing Training
- Periodic training sessions will be conducted at least annually to refresh drivers on safety practices and to introduce new regulations or company policies.
- Training will include defensive driving techniques, fuel-efficient driving, load securement, and emergency response procedures.
Specialized Training
- Drivers will receive specialized training for the operation of different types of vehicles and equipment, as needed.
- Training on the handling and transportation of hazardous materials will be provided for drivers who perform such duties.
Compliance Training
- Drivers will be educated on state and federal regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS) rules, Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and any other legal requirements applicable to their roles.
Record-Keeping
- The company will maintain records of all training sessions, including topics covered and attendance records.
- Drivers’ training records will be reviewed as part of their annual performance evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Drivers are responsible for participating in all required training sessions and applying the knowledge and skills learned to their daily work.
- Supervisors are responsible for ensuring their drivers attend scheduled training and for reinforcing training principles in day-to-day operations.
- The Safety and Training Officer is responsible for developing training content, scheduling training sessions, and maintaining training records.
- Management is responsible for approving training programs, allocating resources for training activities, and supporting a culture of continuous learning and safety.
Review and Amendments
This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains current with industry standards and regulatory changes. Amendments to the training program will be made as necessary to ensure the continued effectiveness of the driver training and development initiatives.
